Puff piece
The Board of Directors of New York City Opera has announced that Charles R. Wall was unanimously elected Chairman of the Board effective December 16, 2010. He succeeds Susan L. Baker, who will “step down” after seven years of “dedicated service.”
Wall retired earlier this year as Wall Vice-Chairman and General Counsel of Philip Morris International Inc. As Chairman of the Board of NYCO, he has the opportunity of making opera seem as “addictive” as he has previously asserted cigarettes are not.
‘Hope it’s not one jerk being replaced by another.
YAYYYYYY…!!!!!
…DON’T LET THE DOOR SLAM BEHIND YA, SUSAN….!!!
What’s up for next season? Carmen? Il Segreto di Susanna? La Navarraise?
Just a thought- I wonder how much of Koch Industries is involved with the making of cigarettes…
Their tentacles reach into everything.
In fairness to your inquiry, and contrary to what I said, in a later post…under the guise of a Koch-funded right-wing “Think-tank” consulting firm…monies in various large amount , during the ’90′s, through the early years of this current century have been paid, from Phillip Morris, and Lorrilod, among other cigerette manufactures, for “services rendered”….
So, in “point of fact” there MIGHT be SOME connection
Dearest Doyenne, La. C…..
I don’t want to go on a date …marry…or even go on a long car ride with Mr. Wall.
I have no reason to doubt he is not going to be one of my FaceBook “friends”
BUT…
NAME me ONE Chair-person of a MAJOR Board of Directors of an Arts organization who ISN’T a sleaze-ball, in their professional life, or “day-time job”
CAN YOU NAME—ONE?
I hope Mr Wall does a better job for NYCO then Ms. Baker did……
Well, if we can name people recently deceased, I would nominate Beverly Sills as one of those non-sleazeball chairpeople…
Signor:
BRAVO….!
…whatever I personally disliked about some of the things she advocated during her chairmanship….I would NEVER put Sills in the category of “sleaze ball”
good CALL…!
Let’s hope he’s not as harmful to the already precarious health of the NYCO as he has been to smokers.
well for those who care there was a very good and long article in the New Yorker about the two Koch brothers and how they have their hands in all sorts of dirty things. I am sure it can be found online. I think it might have been the 30 August issue or around that date. Worth reading. The brothers claim they give so much to charity but it is only a very small amount which is given to the arts compared to the very substantial amounts they give to the tea party and other bat shit crazy right wing causes. And they have been doing this for decades under the radar.
HOD ON …HOLD ON…HOLD ON..
DAVID KOCH IS THE SCUM OF THE EARTH…!
BUT…
As far as I AM AWARE… there is no connection between Koch Industries, and the Tobbacco Industry……
Let’s not make matters worse then they already…LEGITIMATELY ARE….
BTW…
LOOK AT THE MAJOR DONOR PAGE IN THE MET PROGRAM BOOK IF YOU NEED A REASON TO …THROW UP……!!!
A cigarette guy running the house David Koch (re-) built. They really need to get Tony Hayward on the board. Does Wolfram & Hart already do their legal work?
As for next season, hopefully “Faust” makes an appearance. Mephistopheles as hero.
Wonderful, sweet, loveable people do generally not make stinking piles of money.
Good maybe now they will hire Calixto Bieto be the Artistic Director of the place.
…One can only DREAM….LOL….!!
(maybe…it wouldn’t be THAT BAD AN IDEA… to get at least one of his productions SEEN in NY, already…..)
