While the headlines did the rest
In a week that includes the news of the release of nearly 100 “lost” Judy Garland performances and the announcement that Bernadette Peters will star as Sally in a lavish revival of Follies, even Betsy Ann Bobolink is hard-pressed to thrill with choices for Saturday afternoon listening. As she so often says, “Maybe something really appealing will turn up tomorrow.”

Apparently everything is on twice tomorrow.
For the Rossini – use the Cult Custody Battle etc. and just make Abduction
“Cult Custody Battle Turns Deadly Redux”
Oh Louannd — of COURSE they’re listed twice. They’re in STEREO ! DUH ! ! !
Here are some late additions to the list, including one I think is a prime candidate for a chat.

A Handel recital by Nuria Rial and Marta Infante.
1:00-4:00 VPR CLASSICAL
TRIAL BY JURY and LAND OF SMILES

Mireille – I saw that handsome Charlie at Santa Fe – NICE voice, if not the perfect Mozart tenor, perhaps perfect for Mireille.
appealing or appaling?
Don’t tease a poor boy from Louisiana with dial-up.. what lost Judy Garlands? Where can I hear ‘em? someone? someone?
On the subject of Garland, this scarcely counts as a “lost” item, but House of Bobolink has available for immediate delivery “Dick Tracy in B Flat” in which she plays Snowflake. Sort of.
‘House of Bobolink’
All I got were birds, on a Google search, am I that dumb?

Sorry, my little Cajun couscous, I should have explained. Each week, that noted philanthropist/right-wing billionairess, Betsy_Ann_Bobolink, as a special service to Parterreans only makes available ALL the operas being broadcast that Saturday. If she doesn’t already have them, she’s recording them. You contact her at ditzbobble@gmail.com.
The new 4-disc Judy set has two legitimate, “lost” performances, presumably unheard for 75 years: “test” records Judy made for Decca before they signed her. These two discs were recorded in 1935, and her mother accompanies her on at least one of them. These are considered very rare Garlandia. Earlier recordings on this set include the soundtracks from the filmed vaudeville shorts she did with her older sisters, but these are not that rare, and have been intermittently available. Radio transcriptions of her work are often tough to come by except by .mp3 circulation on the internet, and the balance of this set, from what I’ve read, is composed of those–from 1935 until the early 50s. There may also be some outtakes from studio soundtrack recordings. But it’s the 2 1935 audition 78s that are the very rare items here.
Guess I’ll go with the Gluck on CBC…may as well start popping the popcorn
I was surprised to turn on WTUL this afternoon to hear them playing the vinyl Pav-Sutherland-Milnes Rigoletto…with crackles and pops. More surprising: the DJ rhymed Bonynge with bovine.
I wanted to listen to Lucrezia Borgia, but it seems that NRP is broadcasting only Act One and Two; no prologue.
I’ve got Sonnambula from the Bastille. SOOO glad it’s the radio and not televised.
That Patrizia Ciofi (listening to her on radioclasicaespana)is always impressive
and touching… but somehow not an american style
singer and career
