That which we call a rose
The Sultana of the Sobriquets herself, Renée Fleming, has copped another cognomen. The Mom of Many Monikers has just been dubbed “la Grace Kelly della lirica” by no less than Il Corriere della Sera!

I’m curious if the recent disappearance of the link to “Opera Chic” from the “Colleagues” column is accidental or..um…purposeful?
Blood in the water! I had noticed that too.
There’s def a reason. The public needs to know.
La Cieca bears no ill will against Opera Chic but does not agree with her policy of aggressively moderating comments. A blog without an open comments policy is, in La Cieca’s opinion, failing in one of its most important duties to the public. La Cieca will continue to read Opera Chic of course, but she will steer clear of the “echo chamber” of — what is it? — barely a dozen regular and predictable commenters.
Case in point: this comment won’t be approved because it is from someone who challenges the parterre culture of Fleming haters. If I say that she looks like a soccer mom or that she sounds like she just finished sucking a cock and had cum in her throat then I would fit in with the nasty haters.
O my dear Cieca, pardonnez-moi, I had not yet scrolled down to see your comment, which is fair and just, in my way of thinking.
Further, the “W” magazine slant of the blog, while tending to be fun for little girls like myself, tends to pall after a while, plus the watermarking of the photos nonplusses, as well you know.
And finally, Opera chic and cake and cast and vision and -gasm, all of them combined can NEVER eclipse the glory and the greatness of Parterre!
Well, OC published a few paragraphs I wrote which took issue with her Wagner-phobia so she isn’t averse to contrary opinions.
Calling her blog respondents an echo chamber in a post regarding Renee Fleming, well the irony is just too much for me.
look who’s talking, some of my comments were “awaiting moderation” on Parterre just to be never posted, talk about “aggressively moderating comments”…
As for OperaChic, it’s a real opera blog, vast, global, well informed and researched, not a collection of local, sarcastic, irrelevant MET gossip tidbits.
And yet, you’re here, commenting sarcastically on a local, irrelevant blog. People who complain about things they participate in have several options.
A: Start their own blogs and make them whatever they think they should be
B: Accept this site for what it is (and it is hardly irrelevant as there have been news stories broken here before they hit the press)
C: They can choose not to participate in a blog they don’t understand or respect.
Gee, that’s funny, I was just thinking the same thing as I was looking for Opera Chic and couldn’t locate it in its usual place, so what gives? Are we hating on her or what? It doesn’t much matter anyway, but I was curious.
I’ve been told that European-based blog hosts are at greater risk for being prosecuted for “offensive” posts. I don’t know where OC’s blog- base is, but the European blogs I frequent seem to be more heavily moderated. Just a thought.
pernille: European media…a case of if someone even farted, the P.C. brigade would have their sniffer dogs out in full pursuit. Instead I enjoy the freedoms of a country where even daily newspapers in print can and have used the word ‘pr#ck’ openly.
(There I did not want to offend any delicate European sensibilities!).
PS I one saw on music’s English Gutterphone’s blog the website then fell into disrepute…..it started to contain viruses aand sever editing.
Get this: Once the pommy Gutterphone had a mention of Parterre and then referred to it as ‘outrageous’!
Last night, Adam SHankman described someone’s dancing as “balls-out” on live TV. he turned beet red.
I wish this guy were on SYTCYD instead of insufferable Shankman.
Actually I was thinking of something scary like “libel tourism” not the silly sophomoric PC stuff.
I was wondering if libel tourism has affected blogs yet – it’s really worrisome to people who care about free speech.
La Cieca, you look so much younger in person, but you do tell a wonderful story.
She’s in Milan (or thereabouts).
THIS JUST IN! The Belle Silverman Mantle has been located!! Mio sposo has just informed he saw Eleanor Steber brandishing it in her “Vanessa” portrait, located on the concourse level near the coatcheck. Steber’s stole stolen from Stevens! Infamia! Ask Mr.Myster!
By the way, speaking of raging queens and dancing, I sent a friend request last night to Mr. Shankman himself with a note. As much as I love SYTYCD, I have been truly appalled at the amount of talk about what “ladies’ men” the male dancers are this season. Nigel has always made homophobic cracks during auditions when gay ballroom dancers come in, but this season, the comments during the show have been horrendous. As I pointed out to Mr Shankman, it’s not as if gay men aren’t watching, choreographing, dancing or judging.

If that’s your reason for removing Opera Chic, you ought to remove Operavision as well. The comments there always are closed to posters.
