Chat is jumpin’ and the cotton is high

advice_cieca_collins_thumbYour doyenne is occupied this afternoon getting Our Own JJ tweezed, powdered and cinched for his sojourn to Caramoor, and that’s a full-time job, my dears, because you know those venues that admit natural light can be most unkind to vain middle-aged queens. As such, La Cieca will leave you to your own devices for this week’s chat, which is probably for the best anyway, since according to Operacast at least it’s not exactly Sternstunde central. Naturally, La Casa della Cieca will welcome them of you as choose to attend.

Are you kidding? On Radio Klasika of Lithuania you can hear Faust with the stellar cast of ‘B. Terfelas, A. Georgiu, R. Alanja, S. Kinlysaidas’.

    • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

That’s a cast The Vicarias of Weikfjeldas would claspas to his bosomias.

Sorry, group, I fell down on the job this week. Besides — I knew my choice (Cavalli’s Artemisia) didn’t stand a chance.

      • manou says:

Absolutely right dear Bets – I saw La Calisto last year and once every other year is enough Cavalli for me (or “aspetta cavallo che l’erba cresce“).

        • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

Not to cavil, but I love Cavalli, particularly that wonderful South American opera semi-seria Cavalli’s Rio Rusticana.

        • manou says:

Wild horses would not drag me to this.

          It’s perfect for the equinox.

        • manou says:

Lets not start this or we shall appaloosa the plot.

        • cosmodimontevergine says:

Do you mean “campa cavallo che l’erba cresce” (“make hay while the sun shines”)?

        • manou says:

You can say either campa or aspetta, but I always thought it meant “you can wait for a very long time and it might not happen” – as if the horse had to wait for the herb to grow before he could eat.

Anyway – that’s what my mother used to say!

        • Harry says:

I remember once doing a record deal in a shop. I said to the dealer…throw in that Cavalli turkey ( a then new 3 record box set) and “its’ a deal”! He agreed. Today, it is still on my shelves….un-played!

    • MontyNostry says:

Does anyone have any idea how cases and declensions work in Lithuanian? Why do Terfel and Kinlysaid’s (sic) surnames take the ‘as’ ending and Bob’s and Ange’s don’t? Is it something to do with having vowels at the end?

      • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

I think in this case, one should Lett well enough alone.

      • Maury D says:

I am not speaking with any real authority but I have a vague notion “-as” is just a common name ending in Lithuanian. For one thing, in a listing like this one there’s no reason I can think of the names would be in any case other than nominative…

Radio today at 1:30 EDT — Cant decide between Die Passagierin from Bregenz (I like modern opera) http://www.bregenzerfestspiele.com/en/mainmenu/programme/opera-festspielhaus/the-passenger or Dr. Who at the BBC Proms.

  • enzo says:

I suppose the best choice today is Forza with Price, Corelli and Merrill. It’s from 1968 and it’s on Sirius at 3pm ET. I guess that’s a better cast than could be assembled today.

  • Sanford says:

Might I say that The House Of Bobolink produces some mighty fine work. So far today, I’ve listened to part of Ermione (awesome), most of Traviata from Mexico City ’61 with Moffo and Di Stefano, and have now switched to Trovatore with Dame Gwyneth. Now, if only Betsy Ann would join the 21st Century and get on Facebook…

    • scifisci says:

I feel like such a parterre novice (even though i’ve been around for a while), but what/where is the house of bobolink…???

      • Sanford says:

See the screen name at 3.1.1? That would be the lovely and vivacious Betsy Ann Bobolink.

        • scifisci says:

lol i know who she is (how could one not!), but i’m confused by the treasure trove of recordings you refer to…..

        • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

Drive north out of Broadus on US 14. You won;t do much curving for about 162 miles. Turn left where Ma and Pa Swenson had their homestead that burned down. Watch the ruits. Sixteen miles in, ye’ll come to a clump of bushes. Stop and wait there until the camera gets good fix on ye. Somebody’ll be down to meet you.

          Or go to ditzbobble@gmail.com

  • Sanford says:

Scifi, she records practically everything listed in Operacast. No secret. I could do it myself, but I use freeware (Freecorder) and can’t set a timer, so I have to be here to start and end the recording.

    What, you didn’t wax?
