    It is indeed a very pretty photograph of her. I have always thought that she could take up the mantle of Rise Stevens after she retires. Gracious and glamorous hostess and supporter of the MET.

  She sings this song so beautifully – it really sends shivers… One of my top five recitals has to be one in which Ms Graham sang this, along with some other Hahn songs. She is one of those singers who can really communicate something special in the recital forum. Another who can do that is Mattila – an amazing all-round recitalist!

  La Graham’s Dido in the Chatelet production on DVD is simply tremendous. And yes, she is a deeply rewarding recitalist, particularly convincing as a French mezzo. Heureux Anniversaire, belle Susan!

  Happy Birthday, and thank you very much for all the beautiful moments you have given me.

  She was the Rosenkavalier of my lifetime (with Eva Lind (yes, yes), the super-elegant, pre-Wagner Linda Watson, and Edo de Waart). Her song recitals were always events too, but I never heard her do anything better than that recital which included the Seven Early Songs of Berg. Her French song recital was wonderful also, with Dame de Monte Carlo as the finale. And always that gorgeous Hahn song as an encore. I traveled to Brussels to hear her in that for a second time last year. She was not as good as a couple of years ago, but still, an unforgettable night.

    Isn’t she from their town? I cut her a little slack for hometown pride — though I wouldn’t be able to stand being in the same room with the man.

    Graham sang a beautiful and moving “Ave Maria” at Sen. Kennedy’s funeral, so I don’t think we can jump to conclusions about her political views.
