Annie Gets Her Rod

debbie_rodUPDATE: The news breaks today, and yes, it’s Debbie, but no, it’s not Shirtless Nathan.  Letting his defenses down in the role of Frank Butler at Glimmerglass will be Rod Gilfry. (Meanwhile, Mr. Gunn will continue his exploration of the esoteric Blusenrolle fach by role-debuting Eugene Onegin in Cincinnati.)

EARLIER: So La Cieca hears more whispers about the 2011 Glimmerglass Festival, specifically that Deborah Voigt and Nathan Gunn will headline Annie Get Your Gun. Remember, you heard it hear first, even if it’s not true.

      from Caramoor:
      CAST CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT:

JENNIFER ROWLEY TO SING THE TITLE ROLE IN

      DONIZETTI’S MARIA DI ROHAN

      AT CARAMOOR FESTIVAL

July 24, 2010 at 8:00 pm in the Venetian Theater

KATONAH, NY — (July 23, 2010) — Caramoor International Music Festival, under the leadership of CEO and General Director Michael Barrett, has announced that soprano Jennifer Rowley will sing the title role in the Bel Canto at Caramoor performance of Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan this Saturday, July 24, 2010. Rowley replaces Takesha Meshé Kizart, who has withdrawn from the performance due to illness. Ms. Rowley, a member of the Caramoor Bel Canto Young Artists program, has already begun a highly promising career with appearances at Bologna’s Teatro Communale, Opera New Jersey, Michigan Opera Theater and elsewhere, and will shortly make her debut as Mozart’s Donna Anna at the renowned Savonlinna Festival in Finland. Rowley’s complete biography is enclosed, and may also be accessed on her website, http://jenniferrowley.com.

Will Crutchfield, Director of Opera at Caramoor, says “we are grateful to Jennifer for jumping into this demanding role on just two days’ notice, and confident that – thanks to her excellent preparation and talent – we will once again be giving Caramoor audiences the first chance to hear a new artist of international significance. In the meantime we wish Takesha the speediest possible recovery and look forward to the news of her continuing triumphs.”

        Thanks much, Gualtier!!

..While I am mildly disappointed not to get to hear Kizart, LIVE…(and wishing her a speedy recovery.)..I am STILL excited to hear this work, at Caramoor, tommorow…!

        • Alto

          I entirely share your attitude.

        • Alto

And, by the way: I’ve been trying for several days to make a reservation for the Caramoor Caravan for Saturday. The site kept rejecting my order. Now I can’t find any reference at all to the Caravan on the Caramoor site. Does anybody know if it has been canceled or something?

  • brooklynpunk

    Alto:

I have noticed lately that unless you have purchased your performance ticket “on-line” you can’t seem to get a ticket on the Caramoor bus… is that the case for you….?

I’m actually taking the train up, this time, so I can get to the pre-Opera lectures and concerts………

  • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK

I’ve been all through everything and there’s not one word on last night’s MARIA DI ROHAN ! Punkie? Punkie ? Puddn’-‘n-‘pie?

  • brooklynpunk

    ,,,I don’t wanna” make you CRY”, BABS…..

    : )

I jotted a few meaningless words, just now, under the previous “Maria” thread…to get the ball(s) rolling…

I am glad to have heard the Opera…but, unless someone can tell me that there is a full recording THAT MUST BE HEARD to make me a more informed listener…it left me..over-all…unimpressed…..
