It’s Done!
La Cieca congratulates winner Stevey (not pictured) for his masterful curatorial efforts in the “Now That’s How It’s Done” challenge, and the DVD of the Metropolitan Opera Gala 1991: 25th Anniversary at Lincoln Center will soon wing its way Steveyward.
Congratulations and thanks go out as well to the many, many members of the cher public who shared clips and wisdom, and who played so nicely together all the while too throughout a thread of 269 comments and counting! La Cieca is now open to suggestions for topics for further competitions along these lines, the first of which will begin on Thursday of this week.
Thanks to you all once again, and bless you! Bless you!
Preface to a choice. Barbra Streisand somehow managed to make an entire generation completely re-define feminine beauty.
Choice. When Jessye Norman sings the Liebestod and/or “Es gibt ein Reich,” she convinces me she is the most ravishingly beautiful creature on the planet.
Ditto, Babs. First, the nobility strikes, followed by the radiance. The eyes, cheekbones, carriage of the head. Intense, stunning, beautiful indeed.
Agreed. Even when she’s sweating bullets (see clip below).
K., mein Engel!
Es gibt ein Reich,
Wo alles rein ist.
Es hat auch einen Namen : Parterre
“Engel” right back atchya, babe.
I like the “what the fach” idea and the today’s-singer-only, especially the suggestion of “who could sing such and such role today?”.
Also, how about a thread about spirituals? Many of us who did not grow up with these songs have got to know them strictly through recitals by African-American artists.
