Comments that witness madness
La Cieca will never, ever again (even if she ever had, which she didn’t so much) complain about the comments of the cher public. The comments are far and away crazier (and not in an entertaining way) elsewhere.

Ha, this made me laugh. Although every website which invites comments gets its fair share of loonies, of course. In fact, I’ve just had some emails from fellow parterre commenters about this very thread. I wonder if you can identify them?
‘These comments, quoted by la cieca, on her site, are not as ‘gibberingly mental’ as some from the ‘contributors’ to parterre that I have seen in my time! How sad, that ‘la cieca should quote’, such a comment, as if it were the kind of ‘toilet blocker’ that would never appear under the nose of the ‘arse’ of anyone who might post in such a place!!!! But ‘everyone here is so truly’ concerned with the ‘canaries from the shit of record companies’ that pass for what I might ironically call singers in these days! One can imagine an irony if such a situation were to come to pass in what might be considered these times!’
———-
‘no surprise that such post
should be about
the ignorant fools who listen to such
as is deemed melodic
and easy to their
arrogant stupid ears’
———–
‘Eleanor Steber abhorred the internet, as she once told me while spewing tequila out of her nose. What a singer she was, especially considering she couldn’t sing. I loved her very much, the talentless drunk. We shall never see such genius again.’
————
‘Are you people still talking about this rubbish? If you were as clever as me you’d be talking about Stockhausen, but you’re not because nobody is.’
AJ, you bitch snit. THOSE WERE PRIVATE ! ! ! ! I will never let you poke about in my private parts again.
AJ – brilliant!
It’s ‘Arry, Vladek ‘n MisterMisterioso!
I am stumped as to the last one and don’t have time now, as the Gavotte is starting.
Lots of dialogue in this version.
I hope the Massenet lovers listen…
TOT: has anyone else read the biography of Sybil Sanderson and/or does any San Franciscan out there know of any local lore?
“Je marche sur touts les chemins…!”
“Profitons bien de la jeunesse…”
Mignonne, allons voir si la rose
Qui ce matin avoit desclose
Sa robe de pourpre au Soleil,
A point perdu ceste vesprée
Les plis de sa robe pourprée,
Et son teint au vostre pareil.
Do not confuse the unfortunate monolinguals by quoting the antiquated French of Ronsard at them.
Ronsard does exactly what it says on the tin.
Do they have Ronseal over the pond?
Oh, a fun new quiz concept. But it’s far too easy, AJ.
1. Harry
2. Wladek
3. mrmyster
4. Henry Holland
(And for the record, I welcome any skewering of my own comments).
About what I’d expect from a shawl.
I’ve been called a lot of things in my time but never have I been called a Persian scarf-like garment. How dare you?
Ha, well of course I cannot confirm or deny…
Kashania, most of you here are far too unpredictable to be effectively parodied, but in the interest of balance:
‘I’d just like to say at this point that I went to quite a lot of operas when I was a teenager. Isn’t Gundula Janowitz great? I’ve been to the Met. Singers these days aren’t as bad as everyone says- I’m an actor, actually. Leave the Brits alone! Rosalind Elias is underrated.’
This is the passion of amerjacquino.
Hahaha! Chapeau bas.
Armer -- also
Very funny! It almost describes me as one time I went to an opera in Santa Fe as a young college student and thought Rosalind Elias was the greatest thing since, well since EVER!
Could you do the Vicar of John Wakefield also? I’m curious to see what obscure British singers you’d mention.
Why thank you Kash! I am honored
to be in such company!
It’s pretty august (the company that is).
I’m a bit late to this but: AJ, f’ing brilliant.
I’m honored AJ, but for the record, I’m not a Stockhausen fan except for Gruppen, I gave away my copies of the two Licht operas I had.
And can someone do MrsJC?
Bring Alexander and his Penguin Farm on Parterre where they belong.
Chacun a sa Folie!
Just logged on to alert any Sirius subscribers (or illegal streamers) that the incomparable Manon of Sra. De los Angeles is currently being played (1954 with Valletti and Monteux conducting). First of three times in this week’s lineup. So nice to hear it w/o the scooper doopers.
Eh bien, de la Scoopenda, who is discussed in today’s Times by the venerable Tony-Tom and Jon Pareles, are we to have no mention, O augusta ed onnisciente Cieca?
This is a rather intriguing thread. Do we have a sizable number of persons who post in several places? Where the Hell do you find the time?
I tried going to Opera Chic, thinking that perhaps I would like to leave little Bobolink droppings in other territories. All I found there were pictures of ballet dancers’ weinies.
How distasteful!
“Bird shit on weinies and bright woolen mittens” … Distassteful is completely in the mind of the bee holder.
Bobolinks are of course experts on bird poo.
Well, at least you can’t say I don’t know shit.
Bettina Anya — OC is obsessed with Roberto(‘s) Bolles. She speaks as if he were Nijinsky and he ain’t.
It’s wIEners. As in “Wien,Wien, nur du allein”. Make sure you get your wienies and your bolles str8!!
Isn’t anyone listening to Vicky D’s Manon? I know James McCourt would be….n’est-ce plus ma main?
Wienies sometimes weeny.
As for OC’s obsession with Roberto Bolle, I had the impression that it had much more to do with how he looks than with how he dances. In fact, there is always plenty of photos and just a little about dance…
What about if you want it to be whiney, as in whiney, or winey as in sort of wine-y?
. . . or you need to describe the sound made by a small alcoholic Austrian horse
. . . and he’s sort of disgruntled.
BTW, has anybody ever heard of anything that was gruntled?
Nobody can love Roberto Bolle more than Roberto Bolle.
Please, please no more featured articles about RF for a little while, at least!
Oh, I hear you, but since the Dark Hope descendeth upon humanity in just a few more days, I fear La Cieca Silenziosa is brewing up a big ol’ pot of bouillabaisse,
toute belle et bouillante, all smothered up with cajun spices galore, in honor of the advent of the New Age of Darkness.
Sorry.
You can run but you cain’t hide from RF. She’s taking over.
Don’t forget that those Parterrian “Dark Hope” cover videos are due soon.
Camille; Right now, let’s throw holy water and hexes around to ward off the evil music forces of Renee’s new Ratty Album! La Cieca: Blessed Protector of Parterre’s dear children we hope and pray you have the burning tar – ready to tip over, from the battlements to save us all from this coming musical invading ‘draw bridge’ abomination.
Somebody really should acknowledge the splendid addition to the lexicon of Donna Carlo’s “etch in certain arias.” That phrase can, and will be applied to all future CD releases from Danielle De Niese. And her lovely brother Herbert De Nephew.
Somebody has – but do they know their hell bows from their arias?
“you will think twice or just listen to your “inner voice”;),”
I knew Renee Fleming read Opera Chic.
Dear God, there’s someone else in the classical blogosphere who uses ‘we’ instead of ‘I’?
If this is a missive for the Almighty – boy do you have the wrong address…
I’m testing out that supposed omniscience property.
First of all, how did you get this number? Now, can I help you?
Omnipresence.
(lots of presents)
Well – we certainly honoured the title of this thread. And now I have teeth to brush (all my own and in situ), face creams to apply (triumph of hope over experience), and I shall bid you goodbye.
All right, line up, Susl, Hansl, Dirndl, Dietl, Duml, and Spasm, we’ll sing our Good Night Song for Manou.
The comments are prudent and meditative and obviously written by very well-read and erudite music lovers. And as for the Achim Freyer “Ring,” they seem to be dead-on brilliant.
Music appreciation by Dieter.
Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance!
The comments over at OC are all the more remarkable given that comments on her blog are moderated. I wonder what the rejected comments are like.
I got banned at OC because I dared to suggest that perhaps Arturo Toscanini should be judged on his musical merits, not for his anti-Nazi stance, before being called the greatest conductor of the 20th century. I still post stuff because she’ll see it in her moderation queue.
The only time I commented on OC, it was never posted — perhaps because I made a remark about the fact that she does not know how to embed the YouTube videos (the right side is always cut off)? She could have just deleted that phrase (the rest of the post was not controversial), so maybe there was a mysterious reason. I later wrote asking why I was being censored and strangely enough did not receive a reply. Bah, humbug. Non me ne frega un cazzo.
I wonder what they put in the water in LA.
Flouride, until it started to sap our essences.
Kool-aid.
