Sorry, Bolle does nothing for me – I much prefer a couple of the cute dancers in the Mark Morris ‘Orfeo’ (thank goodness for Met Player)
This clip also reminds me of the old Chevy Chase / SNL “Weekend Update” line in which we hear that Jackie Onassis once made Mikhail Baryshnikov cry by telling him that she could see “‘very little’ under his tights”
So who’s the cutie with the pitchfork? Princess Bathild of Courland?
If we only a comparable clip of Nureyev, who had serious salami and was known to dance an Albrecht or two. For now, ballet has a way to go to catch up to the airing out that occured in Spoleto’s “Ercole su’l Termodonte”.
I wonder if any opera marketing geniuses are pondering how many more tickets they could sell if certain barihunks were to appear nude, say in Don Giovanni (not just taking a shower, either, but full frontal!).
BetsY; I remember seeing a Tannjhauser back in the early 90′s : some of the Venusburg women has three ‘naked breasts’, and the males had erect realistic dildos strapped on,. The males even took their curtain calls, down front of stage, the same way. I have big laminated photos somewhere in the house, of these same huts. Even some taken backstage as other fellas pack and play with them on the performers.
Jay: As for the mention of Nureyev , Jeepers! What a crude peasant from the Russian back blocks that was. Staying in the best suites of hotels, more often than not with the next picked out male member of the corps de ballet, who thought he was thinking ‘he was going places’. Come the next night at the theater, this supposed new interest , also the next to be given : the aloof ‘Nureyev cold shoulder’.
As for the ‘next morning’ state of one hotel suite of Nureyev’s,, containing several different beds…..let;’s politely say Nureyev has decorated it in ‘brown’ all over the place.
Harry, interesting dirt about Nureyev. I wouldn’t be surprised about anything he did; certainly his artistic “sensibility” darkened over time. I saw an R&J he choreographed late in his career that H. Bosch might have applauded.
