Sing for your supper
Those among the cher public inclined toward philanthropy and/or star-gazing will want to check out the details on a gala fundraising dinner and concert for the Marcello Giordani Foundation on May 7. The evening will feature performances from young singers and a litotic “Lifetime Achievement Award” presented to Magda Olivero (in virtual attendance via videoconferencing from her home in Milano) by parterre fave Aprile Millo. [Marcello Giordani Foundation]
How is that litotes? (An understated way of making a statement by denying its opposite.) Am I missing something?
Could La Cieca have meant asymptotic, perhaps?
Though Signora Olivero’s lifetime does tend toward the infinite, no one could call her achievement tangential. (And, yes, since you asked, I used “litotic” in the looser sense of the opposite of “hyperbolic,” i.e., “understated.”)
Litotic come from the Greek word litos which means not flashy, plain, not showing off.
Am I the only one to find Mr. Giordani impossibly sexy? I’d take him over Kauffman any day.
Dawson, I think you are the only one.
Dawson, be grateful that there is more of Giordani for you to love since you’re the only one in his PAS (Physical Admiration Society).
What a lovely idea from Giordani. Sounds like it will be a really fun event and a great cause.
I think MG has a certain kind of sex appeal. I wouldn’t take him over Jonas, but I certainly think he is sexier looking than Meatloaf…er..Bryn.
Actually, I wouldn’t go as far as admiration, but I do think Giordani doesn’t look that bad. Certainly better than he sings.
