Nerva, you (and the Met Archives) have given me a walk through memory lane to my first (Old) Met performance, a Student Matinee of Hollander. Unfortunately I can’t remember the date, and they switched casts about a lot — I HOPE it was the one with Valkki and Cassel and Vickers … probably not. I do remember I didn’t like it. The best part was leaving the curtains up to watch the stage hands change the sets between acts. And two years later it was gone. And THEN I went back to hear Rysanek as Senta….
@52 Hans-You doddering old fool. How could you leave us in the dark as to just when you started attending the Met (Old.) I’ll bet there are a number of us “experienced” fools replying to the slings and arrow of outrageous criticism of others on this site. I’ve not recognized your posts in the past, if there were any but your addition and recent posts are most welcome.
My first Met was sometime in the late ’50′s or early 60′s— Forza with Tucker, Merrill and Farrell. What a way to start.
There are a number of posters who far exceed my earliest venture, so I presume them even older than I. Full disclosure, the “number,” for me is 73.
Just was on the Met webpage–Looks like Bradley Garvin is in for David Pittsinger for the “Lulu” performances. Anyone know what the story is?
