Tall tales

1007Booklet.inddWhich Brit of medium height has been added to the short list for a prestigious post that (paradoxically) would represent a homecoming?

And speaking of height, which pocket-sized soprano had a towering cover tenor replaced? Not sure what drove her crazy: his six feet or his five inches!

    Tony Pappano?

  • CruzSF says:

Shoot. When I think of pocket sopranos, I think of Scotto or Racette. But I don’t see where J Valenti is scheduled to work with Scotto and I can’t imagine that Pat has the clout to replace a colleague.

    Angela is petite…
And I doubt Pat would care whether a six foot tall tenor has five inches or twelve inches.

  • SF Guy says:

Cruz–Note that it was the “cover tenor” who was replaced, which I imagine wouldn’t require quite so much clout.

  • CruzSF says:

thanks for that note, SF Guy. I was dazzled by one of my favorite phrases — “pocket soprano” — and didn’t see the rest of the item clearly.

    Pappano to La Scala?

  • richard says:

Yeah it sounds like Valenti, but LC has described the person as “COVERING” tenor. Does Valenti have a cover assignment coming up?

  • rapt says:

Pure speculation: I recall an allusion to a “diva moment” from Racette during the Tosca rehearsals–could Valenti have been the cover Cavaradossi and the cause of the d.m.?

  • mrmyster says:

I thought Pappano is American, born in the USA.
Far as I am concerned the Brits and the Italians can have him!

  • CruzSF says:

    Good memory, rapt.
