La Regie du jeu

regie_04_05_01Even with two weeks to guess, cher public, you were stumped by our most recent Regie quiz. (Hurrah for La Cieca!) However, you did manage to have some interesting conversations along the way, so it wasn’t a total wash.

Oh, which opera, you ask? Why, none other than our old friend Emilia di Liverpool, as seen at the Staatstheater Nürnberg in a staging by Andreas Baesler.

And now, a title perhaps a little less alien to the authors of The Victor Book of the Opera.

This looks like an almost normal, verging-on-non-regie Nozze di Figaro.

So we can rule that out.

  • rysanekfreak says:

I will go with DON CARLO !

    1. The King asks Teobaldo why the Queen is alone in the garden.

    2. The King sings She Never Loved Me.

    3. The huge massive auto-da-fe scene

  • Bluessweet says:

Aw, come on! Gotta be Rosenkavalier.

    1. Ochs at Octavian
    2.Ochs fussing at the Marschallin
3.OOPS! How did we get outdoors in the first act?

  • poisonivy says:

This looks like a normal, non-Regie La Sonnambula.

  • Quanto Painy Fakor says:

“Oberst Chabert” by Hermann Wolfgang Sartorius Freiherr von Waltershausen
    (IF that’s right, it’s only a guess!)

  • I think it is Linda di Chamounix

  • Strephon says:

Perruques and puffs. Roocco frou-frou seen through a 19th Century sensibilty. Must be Mignon.

  • kashania says:

This must be some kind of reverse-regie production of a contemporary opera. I’m going with Nixon in China

  • Il faut parterre says:

I’m with you, poisonivy…my very first reaction was La Cieca’s trying to trick us…it’s SONNAMBULA with a soprano who doesn’t need to be on Ritalin.
Of course, I am a virgin to Parterre-Land…only my third day of posting…so “please be gentle” in your scornful, mocking ripostes.
With time, who knows? I may turn out to be as funny as Betsy Bob-O-Link. (I wish!)

  • Saying it is Nozze is too damn obvious, but you know what? It fits. So i am going to guess that it is one of the operas based on the Figaro tales but not necessarily the Mozart.

That being said, the pics look awfuly close to

    1. right after the Cosa sento trio, when the count tells Cherubino he just got into the army.

    2. right after the trio Susanna or via sortite. The count is bullying the Countess to give up the truth

    3. The finale to the opera.

By the way, could Calaf and Chenier contact me privately? I promised them something during the chat and I want to make sure they get what was promised to them.
