Witchy woman

fleming_fall_thumb“The Met’s first production of Rossini’s supernatural opera Armida was supposed to be a showcase for star soprano Renée Fleming…. But by the time the opera ended Monday — four hours after it began — only a few of the less-than-capacity audience were left to applaud. The magic wasn’t there.” [NYP]

I just listened to Radvan’s Pace and thought it was just pretty good–rhythymically not so hot and limpish phrasing. Vocally, she sounded fine. She needs more oomph in her singing!
So far she’s no Callas, Tebaldi, Milanov or Price in that aria.

P.S. Renaay’s Vespri aria is a hoot–couldn’t be better! When she’s good she’s very, very good; but, when she’s bad, she’s BETTER! My afternoon laugh! LOL
