milk_cartonLa Cieca just heard that Angela Gheorghiu has canceled tonight’s performance of Traviata at the Met. Hei-Kyung Hong goes on.

Wow. I must be cursed. This is literally the sixth time I’ve had a ticket to say AG, and she has never yet failed to cancel.

  • CruzSF says:

Why does she cancel at the Met with abandon but keep her SF dates? I don’t understand this woman.

    La Cancelescu!

  • Baltsamic Vinaigrette says:

Cruz, I think she’s trying to get mifune to move to SF. That particular tale of woe should inspire a new comp along the lines of last month’s procrastination special. I mean, just how unlucky can one fan be? Hard luck, mifune.

  • richard says:

Has she done a complete run of performances at the Met she’s been scheduled for in the last few years? It seems like she skips at least one of each run.

  • SF Guy says:

Perhaps this is a belated birthday tribute to Caballe–”Madame Caballe will be available for a limited number of cancellations this season” and all that…

Hard luck, Mifune–in my case, Caballe only cancelled two out of six operatic appearances; you have my deepest sympathy. But please don’t move to San Francisco–Angie’s been on her best behavior here so far, and the curse may follow you.

  • mifune says:

Well, as curses go, I’m sure there are worse ones — I’m not especially a fan of hers or anything. (In fact, never having seen her, nor heard her in a broadcast or on CD, I think the only time I’ve actually heard might be the YouTube video of her singing Vissi d’arte at the Kennedy Center Honors for Grace Bumbry.) Still, I wouldn’t mind if she actually showed up one day.

  • CruzSF says:

One YouTube video is hardly sufficient to judge a singer. If you do come to SF for a visit, I’ll buy you a beer and tell you how she sang on the two occasions I saw her.

  • mifune says:

Thanks! I guess I will go tonight nonetheless, if nothing else then to see Hampson and Valenti. Does anyone know anything about Hong and Abel?

  • iltenoredigrazia says:

I saw Hong do a fine Violetta a couple of years ago in Washington. Still, I would like to see Gheorghiu show up when I attend her last scheduled Traviata next week. Abel I’ve never liked.

Interesting comment above: Has she ever sung a complete run of scheduled performances at the Met?
