Manou: How clever of you to find a picture of me in my Parterre Award dress! Isn't it just gorgeous. It flatters my alabaster complexion and dark hair wonderfully.

FYI, I am Anne Hathaway's long lost, identical, EVIL twin. Well, just a little bit evil, not TOO evil.

Congratulations jatm. I liked your review and have to admit I always found la Sass a little suss. I bought her "Attila" and it sounded like she was singing with a throat full of cough syrrup and her arse hanging over a boiling mud pool- sorta smokey and very urgent.
Keep up the good work, love a review that's not up itself and leaves me feeling like a dunce.

DO I GET A PRIZE FOR THIS TOO?

I remember those DVD reviews La Cieca assigned out a while ago. Those were fun. I bought at least two recordings based on those reviews.

It's too bad, but I am not nearly OLD enough to have seen Sass in anything. I can only experience her on recordings, which I imagine favored her kind of voice rather well.

Maybe I could just review that Bayreuth Walkure I have too.....or at least listen to it.

It's a bigger honor to win. But the biggest honor of all is when the only man you've ever loved runs off to a desert island with some cheap tart who just won a third-rate beauty contest. Oh yeah, I'm honored up the wazoo. Excuse me, Vicar -- "honoured."

Congrats to jatma! I hope you'll regale us with the title of at least one opera-related item you acquire with your award-winning loot. May I add: it's an honor to [cough, cough] receive just a special mention.

I agree with Clita on Sass' Met Tosca. What a big NOTHING. Here I was expecting this flaming temperament
with a somewhat uneven voice. Her voice was sturdy but TINY. And she defined provincial in the way that no longer exists like her experience was going in some 4th tier opera house. My most vivid memory of the performance was that she wore dangly earrings in act 1 and she spent the entire time with Cavaradossi wiggling her head so that the earrings would jangle.

jatm...congratulations.

Now, to achieve the next level of irony, you must order obscure DVDs/CDs from amazon.com and leave them still in their shrinkwrap on some dusty shelf since, after all, that was what this fun exercise was all about.

Honey, it's RED. Something along the lines of what we see Anne Hathaway in these days at awards shows, except its RED. RED. RED. RED.

And I am dripping in diamonds.

And yet, it's easy to get out of, so I can quickly strip for Dean.....

Does anyone remember Sass's Tosca at the Met in 1975? It wasn't broadcast. That was the same year that Magda Olivero and Galina Vishnevskaya sang the role there as well. Oh, the good old days.

GASP! (hands rising to cheeks, teary eyed, JATM2063 calmly walks to the podium).

"My goodness, what a surprise! Well first, I would like to thank all the judges for choosing little me, from such a wide ranging and talented group of entrants. We mustn't forget rysankekfreak, baritenor, CRUZSF, and of course, my dear, very dearest, old, OLD, OOOOLLLLDDDD friend Betsy Ann Bobolink. Kissy Kissy!"

(waves graciously to the crowd, and departs gracefully stage left, where Dean Cain or a reasonable fascimile thereof is waiting to sweep him up into his arms and carry him off to a far off island).

Now I really will have to watch and/or listen to everything she ever did that is currently available. I will become the EXPERT on Sylvia Sass.
