In endless waiting rooms

magdaThe wait is over, cher public, and your doyenne’s blue-ribbon panel has selected the perkiest procrastinator of the pack, jatm2063 for his account of a delayed encounter with Sylvia Sass. Congratulations, jatm!

Special mention goes to rysanekfreak, baritenorBETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK and CruzSF for their variously heart-rending and knee-slapping exploits.

Congrats to jatma! I hope you’ll regale us with the title of at least one opera-related item you acquire with your award-winning loot. May I add: it’s an honor to [cough, cough] receive just a special mention.

  • Baritenor says:

It’s an honor to be nominated.

  • BETSY_ANN_BOBOLINK says:

It’s a bigger honor to win. But the biggest honor of all is when the only man you’ve ever loved runs off to a desert island with some cheap tart who just won a third-rate beauty contest. Oh yeah, I’m honored up the wazoo. Excuse me, Vicar — “honoured.”

DO I GET A PRIZE FOR THIS TOO?

I remember those DVD reviews La Cieca assigned out a while ago. Those were fun. I bought at least two recordings based on those reviews.

It’s too bad, but I am not nearly OLD enough to have seen Sass in anything. I can only experience her on recordings, which I imagine favored her kind of voice rather well.

Maybe I could just review that Bayreuth Walkure I have too…..or at least listen to it.

  • Ruxton says:

Congratulations jatm. I liked your review and have to admit I always found la Sass a little suss. I bought her “Attila” and it sounded like she was singing with a throat full of cough syrrup and her arse hanging over a boiling mud pool- sorta smokey and very urgent.
Keep up the good work, love a review that’s not up itself and leaves me feeling like a dunce.

Manou: How clever of you to find a picture of me in my Parterre Award dress! Isn’t it just gorgeous. It flatters my alabaster complexion and dark hair wonderfully.

FYI, I am Anne Hathaway’s long lost, identical, EVIL twin. Well, just a little bit evil, not TOO evil.
