They had CVs then

tallulah_gayLa Cieca has decided she is going insert the the following line into her official biography (names and pronouns varied as necessary):  “[Her] personal life was glamorous. [She] rose to fame in tandem with composer Gian Carlo Menotti, whom [she] met at Curtis, and the two had an enviable life together in Mount Kisco, N.Y., even if during parties the often-touchy [La Cieca] reportedly locked [herself] in the bathroom when Tallulah Bankhead arrived..” [David Patrick Stearns]

Lily. I suspect that the server that carries Opera-L in New Jersey felled by the nor’easter we had this weekend.

  • Lily Bart says:

Thanks IL III, I had not considered the weather factor.

The listserv host’s many other lists don’t seem to be accessible either.

The funniest thing about “RuPaul’s Drag Race” (aside from the fact that the camera lenses are covered in more vaselline than in a Streisand film) is the lip syn-off that provides the climax of each episode.

BCCLS, whose server hosts the Opera-L archives, is a libray consortium here in Northern New Jersey. The server seems to have been down since yesterday, I have no inside information, but the weather here was awful over the weekend and that may be the reaosn behind it.
There is flooding and trees are down all over

I checked a few local public libraries, also served by the BCCLS host, their online catalogs are also unavailable, so it must be a pretty serious outage.

The BCCLS people are very thorough so I’m syure they are working hard to resolve the problem.

I’ve done some part time work for BCCLS in the past so I know a little bit about their operation. If I happen to find out anymore, I’ll repost it on this thread.

  • Feldmarschallin says:

I just spoke with someone who said she received no messages from Opera-L since Saturday so obviously they are having problems.

  • La Cieca says:

opera-l is down due to power outages. One of the admins just emailed saying they expect the listserv to be up again sometime on Wednesday.

As it happens, I’d been trying to hit opera-l for reports on Russell Thomas who replaced Vargas as Foresto (under Muti) on Friday – did anyone hear him?

By the way, the Attila cast poster outside the house (at least as of last Wednesday) listed Russell Thomas as one of the two Uldinos but “Thomas Russell” as one of the two Forestos. This, on the same poster. Can’t remember seeing another gaffe like that out there.
