Lascivious wassails

antonyIf you feel like discussing the Sirius broadcast of Antony and Cleopatra, here’s the place.

That bit just now sounded a lot like “An American in Paris!”

Quiz question: Mardian is sung by Andrea Velis… but the part was written for someone else. Who?

Sorry- of course I meant “carriage”. :)

    What a frock.

Has it been auctioned off in La Cieca’s estate sale, or is it still available?

Why such a tragic tale, LA Ciechina?

  • armerjacquino says:

Vienna, 1970 for me. You can probably guess the rest.

  • MontyNostry says:

I only have ears for Shirl there. She’s on blinding form.

The supreme Eboli is to be heard on the 1960 Salzburg CDs with Jurinac, Fernandi Bastiannini and Christoff.

Now I could sing Giulio Neri’s part *tomorrow* ; it’s a question of color and tessitura.

Thank you Kashina for that; it is as wonderful as I remember. Thank you Lucky Pierre for the tip.

  • La Valkyrietta says:

Garan?a does not have a cedilla, she has a caron or ha?ek. The difference is sort of like the difference between the feathers in the chapeau and the feather boa trailing on the floor. Leyla Gencer has none of that, unless you go to the original, and then you find some cedillas, Ay?e Leyla Çeyrekgil. I’m sure if an aspiring soprano reads parterre, we will have soon a very difficult name to write.

  • La Valkyrietta says:

Oh, oh, this time the symbols did not work. Anyway, Leyla has a cedilla in her original name, below the “s” in Ayse (another one that was reproduced under the “c” in Ceyrekgil). The caron is like a little boat on top. I tried it on the “c” in Garanca and the “c” in hacek. No go.
