Sadly we had to read the news in the US press many many hours before the ROH made any announcement.

Policy for partial refunds is already standard – it is NOT a refund but a gift voucher to be used for future purchase of tickets (!!) – As the ROH sold the performance dates with Domingo seperately (at higher cost) and specifically with the Domingo name attached, I don’t think a gift voucher is anything to celebrate at all, espedcially in the light that you have to write to the ROH to get it, in the first place! And just how long will it take the ROH to get those issued, they are not exactly known for their administrative efficiency.

What I would like to know is WHY the ROH did not make a statement earlier with a full press release later? WHY should the UK audience read about it in the US press almost 24 hours before anything is released by ROH??

Eating my words about ROH being arrogant?? Not a chance! Not until they learn to treat their customers with a bit more respect.

Excuses anybody can come up with ad libitum

ROH is arrogant. END OF STORY. Will not go into my problems with them in the past. So, I just don’t go much more.

We live in the States and can not believe how well ROH treat their customers. Unless you are a subscriber, you have zero exchange privileges in the States and even then (especially at the Met) it is not simple to exchange your tickets. ROH allows you to call by phone – you have to mail tickets to the Met and hope that the seats are still available. ROH is really flexible. Look at their terms and conditions for more information as their exchange policies (my opinion) are amazing.

Also, when you purchase tickets anywhere, be it theatre, symphony or opera – they clearly say subject to cast changes. We are all human – we all get sick.

I think ROH responded within a reasonable amount of time. So the US papers beat them. Big deal.

On a lighter note, I hope Placido gets well soon, has an easy recovery and takes off enough time to recover properly. His website shows that he is hoping to resume activity on 23 March which is ambitious for any human being. Maybe he will forget about the public for a change and re-think it and only resume in late April. Wishful thinking but we would like to see and hear him for many years.

To those people who are always critizing him, you really do not have to attend his performances. There are plenty of other people who would kill to buy tickets to his performances.

    Get well soon, Placido.
