    Verdilover, I think you bring up an excellent point about the evenness of her singing. I remember that, at the time (early 70′s) the freedom from awkward register lurches and the sheer steadiness of her vibrato distinguished her from a number of other Soviet singers as being a sound more amenable to “western ears.”

    As of this morning’s print edition, still no obit from the NYTimes. Hard to believe they didn’t have one ready.
    Bloomberg,on the other hand, reported her passing, as did the BBC ( both online)
