My plan for tonight was to attend the Prima and then make it to the multiple occasions that are asking for my presence but alas, all the standing room tickets were sold out after 13 minutes.

Ugh. I feel like such a failure.

Just wanted to wish everyone Happy New Year! Thank you La Cieca, for the scoops, the music, the inspiratin and the attitude. And thank you all for the lively conversation. I learn something here almost every day.

And here are a few things I learned on parterre in 2009:

    1. Peter Gelb is a fucking genius, except when he is not.

    2. The proper use of the phrase “begs the question”.

    3. Karita Mattila should never, ever sing a sacred cow Puccini heroine again.

    4. Anna Netrebko should never, ever sing a sacred cow bel canto heroine again.

    5. George Steel always gets it wrong.

    6. Mariusz Kwiecen hangs (audience) left.

Thanks for the perfect list, Kashania. And don’t forget that we could all sing almost anything tomorrow, it’s only a question of color and tessitura. As for what we learned re Renee, I dare not speak.

I’m pretty sure it’s Renay you should be thanking for the scoops. :)

Scrott is pretty good (for Schrott) [or however you spell it]
Voight is constant; I don’t care about it. Or her. Though I wish
she’d replace Margaret Juntwait. D. V. is very verbal and bright
and pointed; I like those qualities in her.
