La Cieca and her saga prove that you are gaga

lady_in_the_darkYour doyenne guiltily just realized that she has not yet taken a moment to pen a “thank you” note to that member of the cher public who sent her the George Steel watch as a holiday gift. In the spirit of that timepiece, La Cieca would like to update yesterday afternoon’s open-and-shut, 100% certain, no questions asked posting that announced in no uncertain terms that the Met will revive the Franco Zeffirelli version of Tosca in 2010-2011.

One detail that La Cieca overlooked: in fact, the Met will not revive the Zeffirelli.  According to her backstage soupçonnier, “It’s Bondy - no ifs, no ands, no buts. Absolutely unshakeable position: Bondy, Bondy, Bondy.”

And so, the moral (with which you cannot quarrel)? Don’t make up your mind!

La Cieca definitely looks best as a blonde.

As QPF well says, ‘who cares’ — it will all be changed around and remanaged. Remember when Karita Mattila came in to the Lohengrin production ten years ago? Different artists, and a little water over the mill, and the scheisse will settle down.

” Different artists, and a little water over the mill, and the scheisse will settle down.”

Indeed, as soon as Muzio, Lauri-Volpi and Granforte begin rehearsals next Fall, things will be looking up for the revived Bondy staging.

Well, that will be on the twelfth of never, so I’ll be sure to make reservations right now for that date.

EARNEST QUESTION: Was it Joseph Kerman who said that Tosca was a “shabby little shocker” or was it G. B. Shaw??? It is so unspecific and ambiguous when trying to google that bit — I suppose I’ll have to go to the library and plow through a ton of references….

Gee, Count Krunoslav, that Elektra casting was just capital, delirious fun!

    Thank you fellows.
I know about the “Opera as Drama”, however, why oh why is there all this confusion?

Oh, just right now I see a) manou’s jstor citing has come up on the screen, and
    b) my partner has called in and reminded me of Shaw’s Sardoodledum comment, so that is why there is a sort of a confusion…case resolved and closed.

Although I do find it rather remarkable to have read for many years that comment attribution to Shaw in programmes of all sorts. I wonder where and how this mixup was started, since the time lapse between the two is fifty years or so.

Thank you for your help, as I appreciate it.
