snowmenHere’s the place to stay warm and to discuss this afternoon’s broadcast of Les Contes d’Hoffmann, starting at 1:00 pm.

Following this performance with a score is going to be difficult, as the Met uses a mix-and-match edition, but if you’re interested, bad old Choudens can be found here.

Ok..it’s been too long since I stopped by..but I don’t see a link for the chat room :)

  • La Cieca says:

The “general” chat is done here in the comments section, Mrs. F. Some other commenters sometimes organize an “instant” chat — as soon as I know they are present, I’ll provide on an on-site link for that page.

      No coveritlive today, La Cieca?

BTW, I’m at a cinema in Daly City, CA, and it’s not nearly as crowded as it was for Lucia. House is only 2/3 full.

CruzSF — I want to share an absolutely wonderful thing I discovered last year regarding the annual ballet gala, which is kept secret, pretty much, for the San Francisco Ballet…it happens about two to five days before the first official ballet of the season — I think that’s around the end of the month of January this time — at any rate, if you buy a $25.00 standing room, you can, saving your programme as entrance billet, go to the gala party, ACROSS THE STREET, which is at City Hall, which is just f***king fabulous! Food, wine, vodka, dancing girls (sorry no boys), and strobe light madness, all under the benefic gate of Harvey Milk!! Do go to the box office, or better yet, the SF Ballet Office over on Grove or Hayes, or whatever the hell it is, and pester them about when the GALA is. Say you went last year or something like that. Believe you, you won’t BE SORRY!!! It is SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I find out anymore about dates I’ll let you know via P.Box.

Best of luck — and it’s waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more fun that this Tales of H.

        best regards,
        Camille

Thank you, Camille, I’ll look into it. It would make a great introduction to ballet for me.

        • Camille says:

The SF Ballet beats the Opera, for me. The Gala is bits and pieces of the coming season and/or highlights of works created for SFB, and the dancers are stellar. That said, after having attended many NYC Ballet performances, i.e., the best. If you want to try out a little ballet music (there are no tight vibratos but plenty of tight asses), then this event is an absolutely top notch way to begin.

Good luck and hope you enjoy!

IMPORTANT DETAIL: do DRESS up — this is tux, furs, diamonds, and long elegant gowns. I Strongly urge you to wear your best getup or go to OuT of the Closet and throw together something.

Camille com’n tell us! Was it really like that line from one of A Chorus Line’s songs: “Everyone was beautiful……at the Ballet”!
If true, we will understand THAT!

    • Stewball says:

I attended this production in Geneva last year and enjoyed it a great deal more than what’s currently playing in New York. It’s just so much more coherent, and seriously how can you not enjoy something where all of the women look like Mrs. White from Clue!

    • reedroom says:

This is exceptional–please identify the artists/conductor!

  • Jay says:

Blizzard = no HD Hoffmann in DC for me

  • La Cieca says:

    “Olympia was Hoffmann’s first tail…”

  • MontyNostry says:

I wish Junktruck would suffer the same fate as Olympia.

  • La Cieca says:

bassoprofundo, are you in attendance today?

Where is everybody? Is there snow in NYC?

  • La Cieca says:

It seems the people’s choice is realtime chat, as linked above.

    • Camille says:

You, LA CIECA, are the discerning person’ choice.

All I have heard so far is so dreary it’s hard to believe it’s Offenbachn no fun!

AND what kind of IPA symbol French is this?
