Gearing up for my favorite opera of all time!
LOOOVED the Heckelphone reference, Cieca!
(There’s still “Elektra Glide in Blue” waiting to be used as a headline someday.)
I found here an upload of some generous spirit of the performance that kept me awake until 5 am

Ich bin ein Weib, und will ein Weiberschicksal!
dude, I know!
This is a good way to hear this cast. We hear Susan B so much better over the sirius. She was a little swallowed in the house. But lovely singing.
Loving Felicity Palmer…
Goddess. Love it.
Fabio Luisi one of the three truly great Strauss conductors today, the other two being Marek Janowski and Semyon Bychkov. There’s so much atmosphere and warmth and personality in the playing and pacing. It all makes symphonic sense.
agree. although there might be more than three, I have to think about it.
where is Janowski these days? GREAT conductor. Bychkov? Met, hire them!
Nun denn allein!
Great sound tonight. Wish I were there in-person.
Of course I can’t judge her in-house performance, but Susan Bullock online is giving me a lot of pleasure tonight.
“Triff noch einmal!”"
Hört mich niemand? hört mich niemand?
Agamemnon hört dich!
The orchestra tonight is resplendent. And the singing isn’t bad either! These three ladies rock!
Schweig, und tanze.
That was some good shit, y’all!
“uninhibited dance”
It’ll take a long time for me to fall asleep tonight.
Agreed about Janowski. But surely Sawallisch belongs on the list?
Sawallisch is retired in a secure, undisclosed location (Bavaria).
try “uninhibited dance”?
I only heard the end–from Aegisth’s entrance to final curtain. Wolfgang Schmidt is a complete train wreck–his off-pitch wobbling is wobbling. Bullock sounds in extremis to me. But evidently I came too late to a very good party!
Elektra from l’ecole de Olive Middleton.
Had me wishing for Gabriele Schout.
Ms. Palmer, Dame or not, should be given an award for her astounding musical accuracy; I think there was one or two notes not exactly on pitch. An astounding feat.
Mo. Luisi is the singer’s best friend with this score as he actually makes it lyrical and sing and accompanies and supports the singers rather than brutalizes them. While I love Mitropoulos the best in this, this maestro is quite something.
Too bad they don’t have Richard Margison sing Aegisth, who did such a great job with Maazel last year.
I’m really glad now I caught Deborah Polaski’s Elektra after hearing this.
Yes, indeed.
From the sounds of it, the guys were passing around the Bong and could have been listening to Electra Glide in Blue, ‘coz it sure wasn’t what I was hearing.
I thought Polaski was wickedly thrilling last year in the concert performance with Maazel and the Philharmonic; a pity, in a way, that the Met has to follow so soon with their Elektra. . .
I couldn’t agree more, CF – I wish one of these three were conducting the RO’s current Rosenkavalier rather than the hopeless Kirill Petrenko.
