Chi è quella regie bionda lassù?

regie_12_06_02As anotherjj was quick to deduce, the lady in the kitchenette was indeed Cio-Cio-San. La Cieca will note in passing that she searched through perhaps three dozen productions of Madama Butterfly until she could find one that didn’t immediately give the game away. No matter where one goes, the Japanese Tragedy is going to feature kimonos and cherry blossoms.

And speaking of kimonos…

This is a radical re-interpetation of Billy Budd. All those years on the ship have turned the officers into cross-dressers:

Photo One: On the bridge of the HMS Indomitible

Photo Two: Claggart, in mufti, reflects on Budd’s beauty

Photo three: A begowned Captain Vere bids Billy adieu before he is, ahem, hung…..

… ahem, hanged. (Spoils the joke, I know.)
That scenario would certainly brighten up Britten, though.

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is “Guys and Dolls”, but since it’s not that, it has to be “The Gambler”. Somehow, I don’t that’s quite right, so I’m going to say “Lulu”.

I think it might be Rigoletto–large male chorus, Gilda singing Caro Nome in her pink bedroom?

  • Often admonished says:

OMG it looks awful. Who’d want to know?

  • jim says:

There’s a bat signal on the prompter’s box in the first picture, so it must be Fledermaus.

    1. They’ve come to escort him to prison
    2. The maid contemplates the party
    3. Reconciliation

  • Aint that Melanie Diener? Not that it helps matters

  • Donna Anna says:

I tune into the Regie Rag just so I can split a gut laughing at the entries. Can’t match wits with any of you.
That said, it looks like Hoffman to me.

  • I’ll join in with the Fanciulla guesses.

    Richard Strauss’s The Trojan Women?

    1. The women are rounded up and herded into their prison.

    2. Hecuba laments the fate of the women of Troy.

    3. Menelaus is reconciled with Helen of Troy while the women’s chorus laments their fate.

I say it’s Watchmen: The Opera
