Is that March 22 2013?
If a tree falls in the forest and there’s no one there to …. well, you get the point.
Who cares anymore?
exactly my view. Prefer Calleja, Beczala and Kaufmann anyway. I doubt that the major houses will plan much around him since how long he will sing and if he will sing is always in the back of ones mind. Too crazy for my tastes anyway.
I see…operas where he doesn’t have to sing above a B flat…
Domingo repertoire (lite)?
is onegin new to him?
Saw him as Lensky in Covent Garden a couple of years ago with Hvorostovsky.
onegin is not new. the production in berlin was made for him back then (2005 i think, but i´m not so sure).
hmm, i didn’t think of him as a Lensky but… ok!
“We shall see” says the Zen master. I wish him very well. He has always been an interesting artist.
I’m still rootin’ for ya, R.V. Just remember, your voice has evolved, so look for roles that are compatible with what it is like today.
I’m not sure ‘evolved’ would be the word one is looking for considering he’s had to take not one, but two long breaks from his very short career because of vocal problems.
I admit I’m hoping against hope that his career is not over. I think that there is a chance but he’ll have to modify his repertoire.
I’m also keeping my fingers crossed. He has a beautiful voice and is a passionate performer. Hopefully, he’ll be able to make a full recovery.
I’ve heard him in three operas in LA – “Romeo,” “Traviata,” and “Manon.” His performances were gorgeous, even if there were some vocal glitches here and there. I, for one, wish him vocal health, and technical security, as the instrument, in my opinion, is lovely, and his commitment to the performance is irreproachable. His “Lenski’s Aria” on one of his discs is beautiful, so perhaps he’ll hit his stride in Berlin…
…by the way, I’m attending Wednesday’s “Barbiere.” As I’ve never heard Flores, Di Donato or Gunn live, I’m truly atwitter in anticipation!
Be sure to read the WSJ toay (tues) on Gunn.
