I am surprised at the petti- and snideness of the first three of these comments. Surely, it is positive that R.V. is coming back, even for people who prefer Calleja etc. And if he is making a comeback in parts that are not too demanding, is that then not the clever choice (last year or so, people were criticizing him for singing too heavy and demanding parts, such as Don José, Don Carlos and Hoffman – and now, when he seems to be choosing his repertoire, that is also wrong)?
Get a life! And don’t be so negative – at least not until you have heard his comeback performances.
The public has all ready endured one “comeback.” How many more does he get?
As many as people find the decency to afford him, I suppose.
I wasn’t aware there was a limit on such things. Then again, there are a number of things that seem in short supply here.
Really? You weren’t aware there was a limit on such things? Of course there’s a limit on such things, otherwise the public would have to sit through every disastrous wreck that chose to start screaming on a stage just for fun.
It’s not like he’s spent years upon years building good will. He doesn’t get an endless supply of engagements to fail in.
Comeback little Sheba…until he comes back as Mme. Vera.
Well, criticize those who are over this all you want. Personally, I think the announced schedule displays he has learned nothing from the two major surgeries he has just had.
Two performances of of two completely different roles in two different styles in four days? In different cities? Really? That smells burnout all over again. This is not the sort of thing major stars should be doing when they are healthy, let alone when they are trying to rebuild a voice. There is a reason rehearsals exist. it allows you to settle a role in your voice before you perform it. It allows you to be completely comfortable on stage.
The last few times I saw him, in Lucia and Werther, he was a mess onstage, a terrible case of nerves. I can only imagine what he will be like getting thrown in to a production without rehearsal.
Thank you for your fine post #11.
Sometimes the mean spiritedness really gets to me. The only way some like to make themselves known is in a negative way in order to get our attention — kind of like when they did something naughty when they were kids to get noticed.
Sad, sad, sad.
Thanks, Arepo!
I must say, though, that I can see justanother tenor’s point with respect to RV’s schedule just after his comeback perfomance.
