I don't know exactly how it will work, but I plan to put in my DVD, mute it, watch the libretto and stop and start as needed while listening to the Met broadcast. (And record it with Wiretap). Hope it works.

I fell in love with Janacek's music with the first recording of Jenufa released in "the West" by EMI from a Supraphon production. One thing I need from my composers is a personal style, their unique sound world and Janacek (as well as Britten) gives that generously to me.

I don't know how From the House of the Dead will work as a radio broadcast. I do know that when the Canadian Opera Company did it last season, it was an extraordinary experience. I went twice and loved it. It helped that we had a very interesting production directed by Dimitri Bertman. If your ears aren't offended by the soundworld of composers like Janacek and Britten, then you should not miss this. It's a rarely done work and can be unforgetable. I'm sure that Chereau's production will be at the very least interesting, if not brilliant.
