Libre elle est née

Why does La Cieca suspect that Angela Gheorghiu has, for the moment anyway, forgotten the denouement of Bizet’s opera?
“The problem is that Roberto can never accept that I want to perform with anyone else. I am like Carmen, you see, I need to be free to make my own decisions, and there are many tenors that I like to sing with – Jonas Kaufmann is one, Vittorio Grigolo another.”

Looking again at that photo, it deserves a headline title : ‘Diva resting trumpet, whilst warming crumpet …and reading’
Harry: Here she tells her Barbra story. And I love that eye shadow.
Harry [#37], it’s Le Monde – that’s right, perhaps she’s about to learn that it’s a man’s world, after all? – and I see the cover star is Patti Smith.
Now there’s an interesting career trajectory.
Harry, my you’re just full of good will and cheer right? An early start on the holiday spirit?
I find Anna’s performance pretty spectacular and I am not a big fan of hers. The top is quite amazing.
I love Anna. Sometimes (often?) she’s sloppy, but this Salzburg performance was electric.
I also saw her January 2008 at Covent Garden, and she was devastating.
sloppy, perfect word.
A lot of what she is saying about Alagna in this article is misleading, untrue and ungenerous. They both have been singing with other partners for several years now – the joint engagements were in the minority. Angela has also sung with Filianoti a few times – another tenor who is handsome and younger than Roberto. Surprised she didn’t mention him as well. She really seems mean-spirited towards Bobby which makes me pretty sure he kicked her out. His initial comments about her were fairly gallant and tactful while she seems determined to do targeted damage to him in her public statements. I am afraid there is no hope of reconciliation here but never say never with these two…
Harry: I always enjoy reading your posts. You have a degree of spiritual generosity that is not common nowadays.
