Gran Dio -- Nagano looks so old here. DAHna Anna had better improve the pronunciation of her title in Italian and that of DAHN Giovanni as well. Looks like they have set opera is set on Little West 12th Street in the 1970′s.
I’ll stick with Bieto:
He’s so yummy. I’d take him any day over that boring one dimensional Erwin Schrott.
there are interesting and appealing tonal qualities to blancas’ singing. however, i’m SHOCKED to see she did abigaille in zurich this may. whoa! that sounds like some major overparting. perhaps she has more in reserves? i suppose i shouldn’t judge til i hear it.
Operabitch, yummy doesn’t cover Mariusz. I was privvy to a rehearsal that he was in a couple of years ago…he was wearing tight jeans, and let me tell you the bulges in the front and the back had all the women (and most of the men) hot and bothered…the man is snacky. Snacky. Snacky. Snacky.
I want to know what he looks like in ass-less leather chaps.
Oh, I hope there’s a YouTube video of that!
Mariusz look snacky/yummy when he’s talking off stage, but on stage his costume and wig makes him look horrible. The guy singing Leporello actually looks a lot better. Who is he? I’m not familiar with him. I know Mariusz because he was in Lucia at the Met last season.
“DAHna Anna had better improve the pronunciation of her title in Italian …”
I believe, if you listen to the clip again, that you will find that she was speaking English at the time. There is nothing more pretentious than a person who lapses into their idea of a perfect foreign accent just because a couple of words originate in a foreign tongue. Both Fowler and Saturday NIght LIve have ridiculed the practice deliciously.
I think he looks kinda hot with the long hair.
I am jealous of opera lovers living in Germany. Even if these Regie productions don’t always work at least they are attempting to keep things relevant and interesting for modern audiences. The most egregious “eurotrash” productions I have seen have certainly been no worse than the moth-eaten Zeffirelli-esque stuff that goes on at the Met or the tatty productions we have been seeing in San Francisco of late.
Parsifal’s blog has an audio clip of audience booing at the premiere of this Don G. http://parsifal79.blogspot.com/2009/11/dg-bayerische-staatsoper.html
He was very sexy in King Roger and his singing was not bad too.
