“She was pretty but blank onstage back then, but Tuesday night’s opening performance found her too far the other direction, transforming the ironic, moody aristocrat into a Lifetime movie drama queen.” [NYP]

“Leggy,” huh? That Jorden must be some lad.

  • La Cieca says:

I was looking for an English equivalent of the familiar Italian term “gambosa.”

  • Arianna a Nasso says:

Don’t you mean JJ was looking for an English equivalant, etc.? Or has our doyenne started ghost-writing for JJ?
    :-)

  • La Cieca says:

JJ occasionally asks me to coin a neologism and I feel it is my duty to help out the poor bastard as best I can.

  • Sanford says:

“makes Dick Cheney look like Will Ferrell”

    mwahahaha

    No complement to Dick Cheney.

  • Krunoslav says:

Lest we forget (the TIMES didn’t):

“Renee Fleming is not just one of opera’s most celebrated sopranos, but perhaps its most convincing actress. A consummate artist, her one and only role when she stands in the spotlight is to breathe so much life into the opera’s main character that audiences lose themselves in her unforgettable performances. That is the passion of Renee Fleming.”

Lifetime movie drama queen? Not the performance I attended. I thought she was a bit too restrained at times.

And no mention at all of her singing? Very strange.

  • CruzSF says:

Why is JJ limited to so few column inches?! I know there were others comments he wanted to make, but I’m convinced that he restrained himself due to the lack of space.

  • Gualtier M says:

It’s not the number of inches with JJ, it’s how he uses them… (and how much he gets paid to use them…)
