    Goodnight, Zzurrel…

Good Night! I thought it a quite good evening, and it
is so nice to hear Edo give an excellent account of this
    heavenly Strauss score.
No way am I going to come off this high by listening to
    the Tosca tomorrow evening.
We just may have lucked out having de Waart replace
the Old Turtle for this run! :)

  • squirrel says:

A good time indeed. I agree that De Waart was in fine fettle. Old Turtle- LOL!

AT’s NYT review says “Ms. Fleming, who had not sung the role in nearly a decade in early a decade…” I guess the Baden-Baden performances earlier this year don’t count. Maybe I should return the DVD I preordered from Amazon because that’s not Ms. Fleming in the role. Jeeez!

  • The Vicar of John Wakefield says:

This Yank wag has some humour, at least:

“You will probably not find a better-acted Marschallin”

    “Ramón Vargas in good voice”

  • brooklynpunk says:

I generally do not find the need to bitch-slap Tony T, as he often gets here..

    BUT..

for him to write that Ramon Vargas was in “good voice”, last night, seems to be stretching way too much the bounds of my other-wise respect for this critic,,

    ..Vargas sounded pretty strained..I thought…

  • Well, maybe Tomassini didn’t write the review. hasn’t it been implied here enough that he is Gelb’s bitch?

Maybe gelb is not sending the reviews to TT and he is just adding his flair and voila!

Am I missing your point here? The S in German is pronounced like an English Z. I didn’t hear her, but from your description she was correct.

  • MontyNostry says:

That makes a change for Margaret with her all-purpose foreign accent.
