I love Boheme too, man. I was just poking you a little because it was funny to see you ask everyone about Boheme all day. No hard feelings!?

I too tend towards the traditional productions. We need the opera to make us dream. Through all these theatrical philosophical conversations (“Cognitive Theater My ASS!! ha) people are sometimes loath to admit that they love opera because it’s sentimental and romantic.

well Squirrel we may have gotten off on the wrong foot.

my opinion is opera should first make you dream, and then make you think.

  • La Cieca says:

rommie: I agree with you about the dreaming, though I have to remind you that not all dreams are candy-colored and sentimental. Many dreams, in fact, are disturbing, even terrifying. So isn’t opera doing its job if it gives you nightmares?

Except when it isn’t. Le nozze di Figaro, Norma, Il trovatore, Otello, Carmen sentimental and romantic? In fact, it’s amazing how few standard-repertory operas there are which are unabashed weepies.

  • rommie says:

Cieca: it does! but there are some productions that do neither. they just annoy you. and not enough to give you nightmares.

  • La Cieca says:

rommie: I hate boring opera too.
