“All’alba, Vicar! Oh!”

“Why on earth was an American singer (admittedly a good one, James Creswell) imported to undertake the minimal challenge of Timur? ENO must try harder to cast British.” [Telegraph]

  • Lindoro Almaviva says:

James is also a great guy. Good for him that he is making a name for himself.

This just goes to show that what Our Vicar is visiting upon us– perhaps too often to be consistently amusing? — has not vanished, as some here have claimed, from the British press.

  • Harry says:

Oh, because it is the British are the best: grizzling at the rest of the World. How many times have the rest of us have had to put up being inflected with 5th rate British artiste’? The number is mind boggling. Just go over the roll call, trotted out by the Vicar. You’re got it!

In that extremely damp, dull climate and brought up on a diet of stodgy food, how could healthy lungs of a potential singer develop any way? As they say , it is all about ‘real build quality’ Folks. AND the British don’t have It, and never did!

For anyone who is interested, here is the trailer for ENO’s new production of Turandot.

But what else do you expect from The Daily Torygraph? This is Britain’s most reactionary broadsheet. They still haven’t gotten over the fact that Britain lost it’s empire.

  • The Vicar of John Wakefield says:

From a house which nurtured the late Richard van Allan — the finest Wurm on disc — this is a sore betrayal. Where are Howell and Sir John (whose Lear and Archie Rice the West End eagerly awaits)? Where are the younger men like Matthew Best and Commonwealth Artist Paul Whelan?

  • Often admonished says:

Or the renowned Gareme Broadent or Matthew Rose ??? If they wanted Timur typecasting (decrepit) Robert Lloyd is still around.

  • Orlando Furioso says:

I knew our dear Vicar wouldn’t let us down. Don’t ever stop, sir.

I tried hard to find the right way to mention Richard van Allan, but I just don’t have the knack, and shouldn’t try.
