“merry” is not precisely the right word
And this is so not someone I expected to turn up at the Embassy Ball.
And now, the inevitable “this diva looks like that diva.”

C/F 8: Mary Stuart mad scene???
Just because it’s Donizetti doesn’t mean someone goes insane.
We know you mean the pre-execution cabaletta, but … mad scene? You must be thinking of Anna Bolena.
(as Donizetti told me personally: “Whew! … just because I went mad doesn’t mean … what was I talking about?”)
OK Hans Lick so not excactly a mad scene. Never knew the difference between the final scenes of Bolena and Stuarda. Although I love both and think they are the pinnacle of bel canto, alongwith the mad scene from Pirata.
I think Stuarda is much, much more than the act II slinging match. Although it’s great fun too, of course.
