Hello? Gorgeous!

La Cieca feels like she’s supposed to make a joke here, but she can’t — because Anthony Tommasini‘s interview with Barbra Streisand is like… well, you know!

a story floated around that Babs actually approached Rudolph Bing about singing Tosca at the Met way back when her classical album was released. His response was that the closes Streisand would ever get to the Met stage was tenth row center if she bought a ticket.
I dimly recall a NYT profile of Horne in the mid ’70s where she cited Streisand as a model of breath control.
I love Barbra! I always have! When I first heard her sing I thought, nobody else sings like this – not like my other favorite top 40 girl singers – Lesley Gore, Petula Clark. What can you say to your sterotypical queen who owned a copy of Color Me Barbra at the age of 10? And yes, I shelled out the $200 to see from nosebleed territory her during her last tour. Like buttah!
once again – great cover art, La Cieca! You’d have a career in that!
@ whiskey: I think a lot of gay men have taken Babs as a model for breath control – and we don’t even sing!
This article served no purpose other proving once again TT can be effectively used by a persons PR team to gush over a singer and help promote said performers next vehicle, product, recital, cd, etc. etc.
I am sure we all would have gagged at the opportunity to sit beside La Streisand, but really was there any reason to talk to a singer who is famous for not being a trained singer and a “complete natural” about vocal technique?
I am not that old but I am old enough to remmeber when the cheif critic of a major newspaper could be called upon to write moer than puff pieces.
