THIS is actually the vid Ithough I was posting , before….ooops!

  • Shana Tova to all from Tel Aviv!

Here’s the greatest Israeli singer, Chava Alberstein, in a Hebrew version of Hadjidakis’”Dedication”

Actually, the Hebrew version by Naomi Shemer is much better IMHO than the original lyrics, here goes a rather literal translation:

    The crickets at summertime sing
short days of summertime pass along
    and the ant says wistfully,
dear fiddler, you’ve sung already, now why don’t you dance

    I don’t care, I rather like it,
intoning infront of you the wildest of songs
and stand in front of God
    with two dimples
    and six torn strings.

    The saxophones reply: hooray hooray
the flutes this evening are so clear
the bass drums beat, the violins croon
only the miserable ant? only ever sees woe.

    I don’t care…

    Farewell for now, my brothers,
tomorrow a new dawn will light for you and me,
now black velvet spreads over the town
now it’s time to say adieu, and part ways in song

    I don’t care….

    A nice Rosh Hashana gift.

Wasn’t aware that you were also a member of the chosen people, Cieca! L’Shana Tova!

  • La Cieca says:

As La Cieca says in the podcast, “La Cieca is only half Jewish, and the half that’s Jewish isn’t observant.”
