Opera Orchestra of New York will stage a cautious comeback next season with a program of solo recitals and “intimate and informal dinner-hour recitals and talks” featuring the irreplaceable Ira Siff.
Full recitals are programmed by “Golden Voiced Diva” Aprile Millo (celebrating the 25th anniversary of her OONY debut) and Eglise Gutiérrez, most recently heard with the company in 2008′s La sonnambula. The intime events will spotlight tenor Bryan Hymel and soprano Julianna DiGiacomo, with maestro Eve Queler tickling the 88s.
Re: 9 – No, that’s giving the cover something to do other than sit and watch
Re: 8 – Singer learn to perform by performing, not covering. And I’m not suggesting that all the old hands be tossed out; I’m suggesting DiGiacomo has risen to the stature of at least being given a single scheduled performance for a role she is covering. Gelb will either use her or lose her. And then we will get a steady diet of Guleghina and Papian. Wouldn’t want to deprive an audience of the thrill of a Guleghina performance of Adriana!
NICE to have Aprile back..Hymel has a brilliant tenor voice…..Gutierrez is amazing……Di Giacomo I saw in concert and as Fiordiligi..These are indeed fine artists and I am glad we have them in NY. CH
Speaking of the Met’s roster for 2009-2001:
Didn’t I hear that Sondra Radvanovsky would be singing some of the Tosca performances, along with Mattila and Dessi?
Radvanovsky isn’t on the roster. Was that just a rumor or has something changed?
