Monsieur le Chiffre: Of course, I think you are quite correct. Mr Wainwright is not an exemplar of discipline, and I don’t think he will ever be. But one does grow weary of laughing AT something all the time.
BTW for those of you who suffered the slings and arrows of Mrs John Claggart’s vituperations some time back in this forum, let me note that one A. I. is contributing a most sophisticated analysis of Wagner’s use of key changes in Lohengrin, and contrasting same with Verdi in La traviata over on Opera-L just now, some of this in discussion with a knowledgeable gentleman from Los Angeles, one Mr Paley. I would say it is worth wading thru the other stuff just to see the quality of those exchanges. When A. I. is good, he is good! I imagine that material will shortly be removed to the OpL Archives, an increasingly valuable storehouse.
