I have heard, though it might be the unmedicated voices in my head, say that AG will be singing Puritani in a full body cast with merely her head mobile. She will be laying on her back, on a dolly atop a raked stage, so that she will roll toward the prompter’s box, but having missed it will perch with said head dangling into the tube whilst she trills beguilingly the Son Vergin Vezzosa. Unfortunately, it will be the Agatha Christie translation, so during the course of the opera, various cast members will disappear, leaving only director Mary Zimmerman standing on stage.

I was there last night.Some virtuoso spinning and twirling of the wheel chair to match the runs and roulades of her performance. Tremendous ovations for her and all the performers.

The star was Pappano. In 50 years I have never heard a Barber with such wit, style and ear for balance.

With all the whining we hear from so-called public servants, bankers, and captains of industry these days, it sure is good to see one great American act like one.

Instead of resigning in the middle of her term and calling it heroic, this one goes ahead (rather like Greg Louganis when he hit his head on the board) and shows us what real accomplishment looks like.

And she did it in London on Independence Day.

Well good for her! Brava, Joyce, and if I can judge from the times I’ve seen you on stage, I bet you’ll manage to use the chair as part of your performance and characterization. In sensitivity to the event, I will NOT give the classic theatrical good luck wish before going on stage–you’ve been there, done that!
