de l’avenir, donnez-nous des nouvelles

La Cieca has found further proof that time is cyclical. Presenting, from over 60 years ago, a film documentary about a production of Carmen that has not taken place yet — if indeed it ever will!

In this film, Maria Cebotari portrays Angela Gheorghiu. Also appearing in the role of Yannick Nézet-Séguin is Josef Krips.

Very lovely. And my god, she is beautiful. Great legs too. Thanks.

If Yannick Nézet-Séguin ever gets together with Antonacci for a Carmen, that will be something. They seem to like each other a lot.

Cebotari was clearly quite something — her recording of the final scene Salome beats Welitsch’s as far as I’m concerned. Shame she was a star for the Third Reich, though. I wonder what would have happened to her reputation if she hadn’t died so young.

Antonacci has plenty of personality amd artistry, but I just don’t think her voice is anything special. Rather anonymous, steely timbre. She is one of those singers who, like Kirchschlager, I have heard a number of time — including live — but whose voice I wouldn’t recognise if you played it me ‘blind’.

    That’s IT? There’s no denouement?
