stork club?
Earlier today Opera Chic reported on a still fairly vague rumor that Anna Netrebko is pregnant again. Here in New York the information is also pretty vague, but La Cieca has heard that Erwin Schrott (currently in Naples) is spilling spilled beans as proud papas will do.
Whispers in New York indicate that the Met is on alert that Anna may not be available for the December-January Contes d’Hoffmann or even for the March revival of La boheme. The reasoning here is that Netrebko and some of the public believed the first Babypause wasn’t quite long enough, so the second time around she would take her time returning to the stage.Â
At the moment, La Cieca is going to call this one “speculation,” though the following photo from taken last night at a concert in Braunschweig) reveals that Netrebko remains on the plump side.

by whose husband!!
@117 that is wonderful Kiri dress, maybe my favorite! It is even better seen here:
The Gruberova disk I really like is the 2-CD Strauss songs she did with Haider at the piano. Rote Rosen, for example.
Here, sorry:

Scooping and swooping as an expressive mannerism or as a techincal flaw or a bad habit when beginning a pitch is not the same thing as a well exected portamento or some imaginative puntatore that respects the style. In the case of Gruberova, I think that her occasional scoops can be forgiven because of the fabulous technique and artistry she dispalys in what she does as a whole. In this case I consider it nit picking. Also, the woman is sixty three, and she still sounds good. How many singers can do what she does at that age? Sometimes I wonder why people get so fixated on a detail that they can’t see the forest for the trees.
Crack that whip, La Cieca!
I just listened to Stoyanova and I really like what I heard. She reminds me a little of Ricciarelli, whom I like, but without the drooping. As for Gruberova, her mannerisms didn’t take that long to develop; in my opinion, she’s had them for most of her career. She’s another one of those artists that I can respect but don’t love.
