the metplayer weekend

Cher public, here’s the schedule for group listening/viewing of the MetPlayer on Saturday and Sunday:
On Saturday, May 2:
Noon: Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci (Telecast April 5, 1978).
3:00 pm: La sonnambula (Broadcast March 30, 1963).
On Sunday, May 3:
Noon: Tosca (Broadcast January 7, 1956).
2:30 pm: Don Carlo (Broadcast March 7, 1964).
5:30 pm: Die Walküre (Broadcast December 2, 1944).
9:00 pm: Otello (Telecast September 25, 1978).
All times are EDT. Check back at parterre.com for chat postings at the respective start times.
Remember, the MetPlayer preview starts today at 5:00 pm. La Cieca suggests you go to metplayer.org sometime this evening to set up your preview membership. If you have any recommendations of particular “finds” on the site, please let La Cieca and your fellow cher public know!
Such an orgy. This is going to require vitamin pills, methinks.
Opera when opera was opera!
I’m on my way out to by foodstuffs for the orgy. Fairway or Whole foods, methinks. All essentials… pie, ice cream, fillet of beef. But Wolverine opens this weekend, and when will I fit that in?
I look forward to this weekend’s orgy. Watch out everyone, cuz I’m pumped!!
this is really cool that you do this, La Cieca – mille grazie!
I don’t see anything that indicates a temporary membership is required. Am I missing something? It looks like you should be able to just press play and go for it—but I’m leery of it for fear that once started, I won’t be able to stop play and resume later. Anybody more familiar with this than me?
You can go back and click on the track where you left off (on the righthand side) if you need to quit for some reason.
I think you need to register and username/password. They also ask for your address and phone.
The Met seems to work really well though. I just wish my computer speakers were better.
Thanks for the help, doncarla—I’m going to try and grab recordings of at least the Cav/Pag and Walkure while it’s free this weekend
listening to the 1987 Tannhauser now, Norman sure is a powerful Elizabeth, but somewhat stern — I think I would also run back to Venus
The Met Player is awesome, because the operas are like DVDs with separate tracks. If you want to listen to a particular aria, you can find it really easily. And as long as your membership is active, you go in and out of the site and listen to whatever you want whenever you want. It isn’t like Sirius where it’s on a schedule.
To record the operas to save on your computer, I recommend the free Ask And Record Toolbar, from Applian Technologies. Click Record Audio in the toolbar and a little window opens that says “Waiting For Audio”. As soon as the Met Player starts playing, the audio automatically starts recording. You can also save video with it, but not from Met Player (that requires a different Applian app that I can’t afford at the moment). I just recorded Cenerentola from the live b’cast using it.
