I’m visiting my mum at the moment and she has the 81 Traviata on VHS, from the BBC broadcast.

I watched it tonight and can’t recommend it highly enough. Cotrubas is heartbreaking. I’d forgotten how good Cornell McNeill was, too.

Is there any way to ‘capture’ the Met video stream?

  • Sanford says:

    leboyfriend, YES!

Applian Technologies has a program called Replay Video Capture that will capture any streaming video including the Met video. I forget how much it is, but I think it’s abou 39.95.

However, if you’d settle for audio, they have a free program called Ask and Record Toolbar, that captures audio, including the Met broadcasts. It installs as a tool bar in either Explorer or Firefox. The free version captures some video, such as youtube, but not the Met, dammit.

Met’s site says that the free player will be available from 5pm ET…what does ET mean? I’m in London so I’m not sure when to log in!?

  • OperaCat says:

#24 – ET is 4 hours later than Greenwich Mean Time. For example it is currently about 2:30 Greenwich time, it is 10:30 ET (Eastern Time which covers the US east coast). . . I think

  • OperaCat says:

I look at another site and it says -5 hours difference. .. bottom line, ET is the time in New York City

  • armerjacquino says:

    5pm ET= 10pm in London.

Giving us all plenty of time to listen to and discuss the BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Armando (‘In The Loop’) Ianucci and David Sawer’s new opera about plastic surgery live from Opera North four hours earlier…

    No? Just me?

I just found out about the Met Player orgy, too late to vote. I’m just wondering why Callas’s 1956 Lucia got no votes. Educate me, girls. Almadiva

  • scifisci says:

i’ve heard that broadcast before and she really wasn’t at her best.
Also probably because most everyone has heard callas’ various lucias, especially the 1955 berlin one.

Thank you, Sanford! It doesn’t run on Mac unfortunately. As for audio only, I use Audio Hijack and I have to say that I have nothing but very good things to say about it.
