So, guess who’s going to sing Norma?
Juli 2010 geplant.”
Well, I wish her luck. Dortmund???
Aright. Let’s have at this:
She is the unstritted, stralling queen of coloratura in the mezzo fach: Cecilia Bartoli. In the coming season will she in the goddamn fucking concert house of Dortmund [see I'm translating the caps is what I'm doing there] of one of the most bedooted and Swedish parts in the goddamn opera literature make chopped liver: as “Norma,” in Vincenzo Bellini’s opera with, no seriously, the same name. The musical leading of this bitchin’ concert production lies in the hands of Irving Katzenbaum, of which she or her its or his own handbell choir, the Balthasar Neumann Experience, and the choir of the same name, will make with the directing. The mumble mumble something something are for the 29 June and 1 July 2010. Eggplant.
How’d I do? It’s been years since high school German, but I think it’s in pretty good shape, huh?
i just got the CD of her sonnambula and when she wasnt whispering into the mic she was singing incredibly well.
her norma is going to be really unique and really awesome.
the easiest way to not enjoy it is to compare it right off the bat with callas, sutherland and caballe, cause we all know different is bad!
I’d love to be there.
Frankly I’d be curious to hear it. Unlike our hostess, I generallyfind her interesting and charming, but Norma does seem a very strange notion.
Mairy @2: This news release is, I think, an ideal example of the unintentionally hilarious result of German syntax. The writer drops this fucking bombshell and gives all the details, and then the final word of the sentence is… “geplant.”
I’m intrigued. The role has rather got locked into an iconic status in the past century (“the PINNACLE OF VOCAL-DRAMATIC ART!!!” sort of thing), to the point that it has needed someone to reconsider and perhaps offer an alternative view on it. (Like the proposed Auger Norma at Spitalfields, that never came to pass.) This may turn out horribly, but if all concerned REALLY rethink it, something valid and interesting could happen.
Speaking of Bellini, I just got the Netrebko’s Capuleti and it’s not bad at all. But I still got a problem with the finale. My first Capuleti was the weird Aragall|Pavarotti one with a surprisingly dramatic ending I never heard anywhere else. It spoiled me and now I find the original one BORING!!!
Anyone knows where it comes from (I mean, that Abbado’s finale, not my bad taste sehr dramatish musik) and is there any other version of it (with a better sound)?
Renee Fleming could sing Adalgisa, since she dedided she wasn’t up to Norma.
Let me try that again.
