a place at the table
The staging you may like or not like (and La Cieca is sure you will not be shy about expressing your opinion), but, my goodness, what gorgeous singing from Tatiana Monogarova and Mariusz Kwiecien!

Lindoro; that’s what I was afraid of and tried to warn you about. Free downloads seem to be a thing of the past. The version they give you for free will allow you to record maybe 30 minutes, if at all. I still recommend Audacity; at under $30.00 it’s completely servicable. If you’re on a Mac, try Wiretap — same price but much less versatility. Very bare bones.
Now — can YOU possibly tell me how to get into that Chat Room? I’ve been trying all night. I can read what others are saying but cannot make my presence known. Are y’all perhaps blocking ME out? Then pooh on you.
Audacity still seems to be free (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/), but I’ve never managed to get it to capture audio streams on my Mac (it worked beautifully when I had a Windows machine).
As far as I know, Real 11 does capture video streams – I should know because the company I work for is suffering because of it. The solution is for a company to host its own videos and not rely on hosting companies. That’s probably what the Met is doing, and what we’re considering ourselves.
brilliant production
faithful to puschkin and tschaikowsky.
the best i’ve seen in 35 years by a YOUNG director. No mannierism, no deconstruction
fantastic
and morganova excellent
everybody should see it…
For streaming recording I have found nothing to equal Audio HiJack. It records in a number of formats, will transfer direct to a sound editor etc. etc. I wouldn’t be without it. I use a Mac version.
Oh, and HiJack will record from any source: iTunes, Real Player or even the computer audio output. If it can play it can be recorded.
La Cieca, you’re right. They both sound pretty damn good.
Perhaps the Met’s Eugene Onegin could be revived with this pair.
To Il Guaraany.
The “free” audacity edits and converts beautifully but does NOT record. Sourceforge ceased providing that version free a couple years ago. It never did work on a Mac. I have Wiretap on my Mac to record and Audacity to edit.
I have the old free audacity on both my PCs, so I have never had to experiment with anything else, but I will keep Hijack in mind for the inevitable “later on.”
De-lurking to say that I have a copy of this and though I’ve haven’t sat down to watch beginning to end but have seen most scenes. I thought it worked extremely well, especially Tatiana’s party and the letter scene. Parts were disconcerting, like having all of the people there in the dining room for the “duel” which is now a fight over the gun, the action during the polonaise instead of dancing and the flailing gun at the end. Keep Kwiecien away from guns, fer chrissake! He seemed a little ridic in that Munich clip of the dancing cowboy polonaise flailing THAT gun around. Too overwrought. All in all, I thought the performances and production were wonderful. Monogarova is a wonderful Tatiana, I think.
This performance is part of the Emerging Pictures HD opera series like the La Scala performances.
After all, they are still young enough to be plausible in their roles, unlike the last several casts.
Don’t know the lady; like what I heard.
Mariusz is sounding worse and worse these days. Very sad. He was so promising in his earlier days, as well as a terrific actor.
