is it just me, or…
… does Sondra Radvanovsky (particularly in middle voice) sound eerily like Shirley Verrett?

I have to agree also with Mrs. Claggart about the 1976-77 Met run with Scotto and Pav. I would only add that, while I mostly revered Mo. Gavazzeni’s work, he wasn’t much help with that cast regarding balances. With a cast that lyric (only Manuguerra and Morris were sufficiently big-boned to hold their own in their roles at the Met, regardless of the conductor’s approach), more transparency would have helped, but Gavazzeni went for a no-holds-barred effect as if he had Corelli or Del Monaco, Milanov or Price, and Simionato as his cast rather than Scotto, Pav, and Verrett.
moffo is wonderful but she doesn’t trill.
I was there Saturday, and I rank the performers as follows:
1. Radvanovsky
2. Youn
3. Zajic
4. Hvorostovsky
5. Ãlvarez (and he was OK)
My wife, mother, sister-in-law, and friend (four different people) enjoyed the bare-chested anvil guys the most.
And of course, my rankings couldn’t mean less under any circumstances.
of course JoeBoo forgot to mention he is married to Sondra!
just kidding, but something has to explain his lack of hearing.
In pitch mean anything, dear?
