hd anxiety

La Cieca has just heard a very soft whisper that there may be another cast change afoot for tomorrow’s HD telecast of Lucia from the Met.

Hm, pardon my stupidity, didn’t see ika’s comment. So it is Kwiecen being replaced..pity.

  • Satisfed says:

What I don’t quite understand is the passionate responses on this site championing Damrau for the part. Yes, she was (absoultly) incredible a few months back, but we’ve seen it. And if I recall correctly, none of her Lucia’s were sold out.

Pardon my incredulity: but for all those advocating for Damrau…where were you in October?

  • Satisfed says:

    *Absolutely

    Satisfed -

Not everyone who reads and/or comments on this blog lives in the New York area and can attend the performances in house. I am one of those, and I do attend the HD broadcasts. So, I am excited at the prospect of a replacement, as this is my chance to see this opera this season.

Almost surely there will be less Kielbasa on the stage during tomorrow’s Lucia. There will, however, still be kielbasa.

Please forgive what was unintentionally an arrogant and pretentious comment. I sometimes fail to recognize that not everyone on this blog lives in New York.

I hope Netrebko sings tomorrow. I want to see and hear her and form my own opinion. Talking about good roles
for Netrebko, what about Carmen? Many a soprano, like Callas, have sung Carmen. I think, if she puts her heart to it, she can bring the house, any house, down! She has the voice, the looks and the temperament to shine.

To answer Satisfed’s (42) question on where were all “those advocating for Damrau” (as I consider myself one), well…I particularly don’t live in the US and couldn’t be in her performances in October (which I would have loved to see live) but I DID listen to three of them on SIRIUS radio on the computer. I couldn’t got to New York in October because I have a job where I can’t just tell them “Hey, I am going a couple of days to New York to see an opera and will return soon”.
One more thing, if you measure the quality of a singer because she or he has sold out performances…well, it’s not a very accurate way of measuring their work, you know. Let’s not forget that marketing is more powerful sometimes than real quality and not always the “famous” singers are the ones that have the quality. But I’ll stop here because I will get trashed anyway…

  • spiderman says:

who is kwiecien’s cover anyway? who is in town who could jump in? FRONTALI???

  • MICHAEL says:

For elisabetta a real spinto-dramatic is needed. In some places it΄s lower than eboli, but I suppose in 5 years΄time netrebko can handle it.
