BTW, did you hear Villarzon as the host on the Opera Quiz today? OMG – WHAT A HAM!!! Very funny! There were a few times when he sounded just like Don Francisco (nee Mario Kreutzberger), host of Spanish-language TV’s “Sabado Gigante!”
I haven’t heard RV in Lucia but he was damned good as Lensky in the ludicrous Onegin production in Berlin last October. He sang well enough to make us forget he was singing in clown-face.
My guess is it’s a transvestite production of Tales of Hoffman.
Failing that, I’ll say Rake’s Progress again.
